Hello people, my name is namira nasir.

I just came back from one of the best SYF experiences of my life. I’ve been to three exactly. Including my malay dance in primary school. It was just so awesome. And sad. Here I am, comprehending it all to you.

Today I woke up at 0530am. I was just so excited!! I couldn’t bear to sleep any longer. Packed my straightener, physics stuff, mp3, phone and got ready. YAY!!! I went to school happily. SKIP here, SKIP there. Skip, skip, skip. I was so excited.

Syf! SYF!

went to school SUPER early. Then waited for the lady to open the door of my classroom. I had nothing to do inside, I didn’t have to do homework because I was leaving early anyway. SO, I decided to read my friends’ health booklets.(namira knows how to have fun!) Read, read, read. My friends were super light when they were born. Compared to my whopping 4080grams. AND THEN DUANE CAME!!! yay, yay. Then we talk talk talk. After that jia min came in. After wishing me good luck for like one hundred times, she asked about the history test to duane. I took(snatched) duane’s marker and wrote Calimasale on the board 200438534 times. Then yong xing and jorges came in and asked me what the fuck I was writing on the board then duane was like, ‘Nobody know one. Only she understands. Crazy.’ Duane! never mind him. then went down to the parade square. Got mary’s make-up bag(love you gal) and andrea’s sweater. Sang majulah singapura so proudly. The pledge was no exception. Sing sing sing and then go back to class.

SYF! SYF!

Went up to class and then had English newspaper reading period. I could hardly concentrate. I was just too busy remembering my steps. After the period, we went to the physics lab for physics. Then we did some notes on light. Zafran was in the background sneezing helplessly. I felt sorry for him. He used like a gazillion tissues. Studied light some more. Then it was 0910. I almost forgot that I had to leave at that time. I left after watching poor zafran leave the class, sneezing. Made my way to the dance studio.

Preparation
We stretched and then Mrs Lim announced, ‘ Girls, change quickly. We are going to show our dance to Mr ong and mr San.’ Shitty shit. I don’t want to dance there. Okay nvm. I just changed and went downstairs to the hall. Danced in front of mister ong and he said it was good. He reminded us that if we got gold we get a subsidized trip to Australia. Like hello? We are not getting gold for Australia. We want to get gold because we deserve it! GO DANCE!!!!!!!!

Recess
After practicing for like another 3 times, we went upstairs to get our stuff for recess. We went downstairs and saw the sec ones acting like kindergarten kids. They were flinging their water at each other and all that immature jazz. What onli. Grow up lar… The dance girls went to buy their food first. I did not feel like eating so I just sat there. Then, they were worried that if I dun eat I will have no energy for SYF. So I forced myself to the nasi padang stall and queued. The 3/7 boys came and lined up at the queue beside me even though there was like 0 people behind me. HELLO? NEVER EVEN SAY HELLO YOU 3/7 BOYS!!!!!! So angry sia. Then I stand there like stupid person. Thank god Zen was at the prata stall beside me and said, ‘Why you still here?’with that goofy expression he has on his face. THANK YOU ZEN! Then we talked and I bought my food and sat with the girls. After about 7 ‘Aim for Certificate of Participation’ from the boys, we went up. Great encouragement guys.

HAIR AND MAKE-UP!!!
Wow, jazzing up time. All of us applied foundation first. Then we went to the teachers to get make-up done. I went to mrs sheri for my blusher for my blush coz I wasn’t blushing. Then I thought I looked okay then. After that, I went to Mrs Goh (cassie’s mom) for my blue eyeshadow to get done. She did a beautiful job and the make-up wasn’t at all smudgy. Fantastic work cassie’s mom! After that, I went to Fiona to do my hair. Then I went to Mrs Lim to apply the sparkles on my left eye. Sparkly sparkly sparkly. After that I had nothing to do. I just neated up my make-up and put the fake eyelashes on my eyes. I changed into my costume. And then done!! Me and nabilah had nothing to do, so we campwhored. We took so many pics together. TWEENIES FOREVER! Then we got ready to leave. GO MODERN DANCE!!!!

The Journey
The bus was there. Our mode of transportation for the journey that lay ahead to the National university of Singapore. Me and meridyn sat together. We talked because CHERYL ran off with my mp3. We talked and talked. Talk, talk, talk. We were so damn nervous we didn’t talk that much. And finally, as if by magic, we were there.

ARE WE THERE YET?
Finally, we reached there. The outside façade did not look as intimidating as before. There were many dance troupes already inside with weird costumes. We blended right in but our make-up rocked!! There were so many types of costumes. There were the African-style costume. The angel costume. There were even dancers in 60’s era outfits! From the outfits, you can so totally tell what their dance is about. So, we waited. And the group before us happened to be the African dancers with braided hair and fake animal skin costumes.

The most important thing to do when you are in the waiting hall, NEVER LOOK NERVOUS. Be confident. Soon, everyone will get the idea that you are a dance group that shouldn’t be messed with. woah… that’s advice from namira nasir to you.
THE QUEUE
The queue was one of the most nerve-wrecking waits of our entire life. Everyone was helplessly trying to stretch, remember their steps, correct their smudged make-up and arranging their costumes. Some were giving each other words of encouragement, some were jumping about trying to douse their nervousness. But not namira nasir. I was playing with my handphone. Bobby Carrot. The best game in the world.

BACKSTAGE
We were asked to keep silent. Not to make a sound as the school before us prepared and displayed their performance. Meanwhile, I was hugging and being hugged by teachers, juniors and seniors. I fought back tears of ultimate fright, happiness and sadness at the thought of this being the last performance with my beloved seniors.(okay, I wasn’t really crying. But you try creating drama on a blog!!) Before any of us knew it, the school before us had finished. We went to our positions backstage and entered the vast stage.

The lights slowly brightened, our hearts pounding, the audience awaiting our performance.

Showtime.

Calimasale wishes all mothers around the world a Happy Mother’s Day. May your sons and daughters buy you expensive gifts and treat you nicely today.

But friends, as we ponder upon this faithful day, we must not forget that we should not JUST appreciate our mothers today. In fact, everyday, we must celebrate our mothers. These jewels that we must treasure no matter what. I mean honestly, imagine spending everyday of your life facing teenagers everyday.

Today, me and my family went to the airport for dessert at Swensen’s to celebrate mother’s day. However, we were gravely disappointed when we saw a queue the size of Brazil at the famous ice-cream shop. Therefore, we decided to postpone our dessert together to the next day. Wherever I turned, I saw mothers holding bouquets of beautiful flowers smiling radiantly at their children. I envied the children who could afford these lavish gifts. When my father saw my poignant face, he gave me ten dollars and literally shooed me, my sister and my brother off to buy gifts. I skipped happily at the thought of buying my mom a present. My brother bought chocolates, my sister bought a glittery, lavender frame, and I bought my mom a rose. The rose was so pretty! I bought one for myself too. I was worried that people might get the wrong idea that I was a mother and that was my reason for holding a flower. But hey, I didn’t mind.

My mom was surprised at the presence of gifts for her. I gave mine to her happily and wished her a happy mother’s day for the millionth time.

I love you mother. Sorry for losing the $4.50 currypuffs just now. I’ll pay you back.
